Latex foam is lighter and more breathable than memory foam, which means better airflow for cooler sleep. A latex mattress won’t hug your body as snugly as memory foam, but it will contour enough for pressure relief. Furthermore, a latex mattress is bouncier than memory foam, behaving more like an innerspring mattress. An added bonus of latex is its natural durability, allowing warranties of up to 15 years!
Latex foam is produced in two common forms: Dunlop and Talalay. Dunlop latex is poured to the top of the mold, then settles naturally and sets. The result is a foam that is denser at the bottom than the top. Talalay latex, on the other hand, is poured only partially into the mold, then pumped with air. The result of this process is a foam of consistent density that is lighter overall than Dunlop latex.
City Mattress offers latex mattresses from popular brands including Aireloom, Kluft, and PranaSleep and in every size from twin to king (including California king). In addition, you’ll find latex mattresses made entirely of foam as well as hybrid options, which combine latex foam with innerspring support. All of our latex mattresses are adjustable friendly, so you can use them with an adjustable bed base. Talk to our personal Sleep Concierge to find the right latex mattress for you, and remember that City Mattress offers White Glove local delivery and setup with every mattress we sell!
Latex vs. Memory Foam - Which is right for me?
If you want more bounce and less sinking than memory foam, a latex mattress is an excellent option for you. Latex mattresses often feel lighter than their memory foam counterparts, and contour to your body with less hugging. If instead you prefer to sink into your mattress and want to feel cradled, a memory foam mattress may be a better option. The best way to determine which mattress is right for you is to visit a City Mattress store and try them for yourself.
Can a latex mattress help reduce or alleviate back pain?
If back pain keeps you awake at night, a latex mattress can help. Latex has some of the body-cradling properties of memory foam, but it also provides the support you need to wake without the soreness. A firmer latex mattress may be ideal, so be sure to discuss your back pain with one of our Sleep Experts.
Can you have allergic reactions to a latex mattress?
A latex mattress will not give you a latex allergy. Even if you have a known latex allergy, such as with latex gloves, balloons, or rubber-soled shoes, you shouldn’t have an issue sleeping on a latex mattress.
Will I get hot while sleeping on a latex mattress?
A latex mattress won’t contribute to warmer sleep. That’s because latex foam is less dense and more naturally breathable than memory foam, allowing better airflow for a cool night’s sleep.
What are the main benefits of a latex mattress?
If you’re eco-conscious, know that latex mattresses are made from natural materials, with no harsh chemicals involved. Furthermore, the rubber trees are not harmed when the latex is harvested. Compared to a memory foam mattress, a latex mattress hug less and feel lighter. It will still relieve pain and pressure points as it forms to your body, but the effect is less pronounced, with less sinking and a more general contour than memory foam. A latex mattress is naturally cooler than a memory foam mattress because air can pass through the foam more easily.
What is the best latex mattress overall?
The truth is there’s no “best” mattress for everyone. We offer high-quality brands like Aireloom and PranaSleep, as well as luxury mattresses from Kluft. The best option will be the one that gives you ideal support and extra comfort features while fitting within your budget.
Do I need a boxspring with a latex mattress?
All mattresses require a foundation underneath. The foundation helps to properly distribute your body weight as well as the weight of the mattress, while keeping you supported. However, your foundation doesn't necessarily need to be a boxspring; it can also be a bunkie board or an adjustable bed base.
