Box Springs: Foundations for Better Sleep

Box Springs

You want and need a long, uninterrupted night of sleep. This is instrumental in having good health, both mentally and physically. What do you need to ensure you get this sleep? You need a high-quality mattress, of course, but that’s not all. As you build your slumber oasis, you want to give thought to your box spring.

What is a Box Spring?

As we have written about recently on choosing a great foundation for your mattress, all mattresses will benefit from having a firm, solid foundation to rest on. Box springs were created to help absorb impact, reducing the wear and tear on the mattress. As you begin shopping, you’ll find you don’t see the words box spring very often anymore. Today’s products are most likely referred to as foundations. They’re not exactly the same product, as a foundation doesn’t necessarily have “springs,” but many people use the two terms interchangeably. If you’re shopping and see it called a foundation instead, don’t worry!

Do You Need a Box Spring?

You put a lot of thought into your new mattress. After all, you wanted the best. When you purchased a mattress from us here at City Mattress, that is exactly what you got! But what is your mattress resting on? Your mattress’s foundation matters much more than you may realize. A box spring’s function is to absorb shock and reduce the wear on your mattress, raise the mattress height, air out the mattress, and create a flat and firm structure for the mattress to lie upon. It may also be time to replace your box spring if it's older.

Our Box Spring Options

We always recommend you purchase a new box spring at the same time you buy a new mattress. If you didn’t, or you feel you need a change later on, you can also buy one separately. We have an entire section of our website dedicated to helping you find a new box spring! Whether you’re looking for a Queen box spring, King box spring, Full size box spring, or Twin box spring- we have it!

City Mattress Arches Box Spring

Beyond being offered in any size you could possibly need, this box spring comes with a low profile option. This means the foundation is only 6 inches, rather than the traditional 9 inches. Some people choose this for aesthetic purposes, while others simply have an easier time getting into bed when it’s closer to the ground. Some of our mattresses are quite thick and can be difficult for senior citizens to climb onto when paired with a further 9 inches of foundation. That’s why we offer both!

Simmons Beautyrest Box Spring

When you want the best sleep possible, you want to create the ideal sleep system. This means thinking hard about more than just the mattress. You love your Simmons Beautyrest mattress, and you’ll love the brand’s box spring too! The Beautyrest foundation provides exceptional support and reduces motion transfer for an undisturbed night's sleep. Crafted with durability in mind, the Beautyrest foundation is built with top quality wood and solid steel struts.

Sealy Kenaston Box Spring

The Kenaston foundation offers more support and comfort than your traditional foundation. It provides stable support to absorb motion transfer and prevent sagging. After all, you want your mattress to last the full eight to 10 years, and the right box spring underneath it goes a long way towards making sure that happens! It comes with a 10-year full warranty, just like the Serta mattress!

These three options are a great place to begin. Don’t forget- you have more options beyond the tried-and-true box spring. You can also opt for a bunkie board or an adjustable bed base. If you have any additional questions, our Sleep Experts are here to help!
